A Butterfly' Sunday

We usually have company on Sundays but on this occasion were left to our own devices: so we decided to take a peep at the Marbled White Butterflies on the Holly Hill Open Space and then go on to see if we could find any Marbled White Butterflies in the Upper College Farm area (we saw one there last year).

On Holly Hill we saw at least three Marbled White Butterflies viz.

and thought that there might have been up to five present.

Once again, lots of small Skippers viz.

and Ringlets and/or Meadow Brown Butterflies (with very few settling we found it difficult to differentiate between them).

But perhaps the most significant and encouraging Sightings were of at least two Small Heath Butterflies viz.

We had previously seen just a single Small Heath Butterfly on Holly Hill.

Moving on to the Upper College Farm area, one of the first Butterflies seen was a Painted Lady Butterfly. No Marbled White Butterflies alas but we did find four Bee Orchids viz.

The area was awash with Small Heath Butterflies viz.

and Skipper Butterflies viz.

Also quite a few Meadow Brown Butterflies viz.

We didn't knowingly see any Ringlet Butterflies but we imagine they were present.

Other Butterfly' Species present:

Common Blue viz.

Holly Blue viz.

and Small Tortoiseshell.

Having done the circuit of the area we were on our way back to the Car for a much-needed Drink but paused briefly beside the Bexley Cricket Club' Ground where a Sporting Contest was underway viz.
