The 'Patchwork Challenge' 2017 ~ our Target is in Sight! Hopefully!

We made some small progress towards our Target of 60 Bird' Species during July, adding Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon (a 2-Pointer) viz.

and Yellow-Legged Gull (a 2-pointer) to the List of Bird' Species seen.

We have always had trouble identifying Yellow-Legged Gulls: just one of those things. That being said, we noticed a Gull beside the Thames during mid-July viz.

and although we thought he/she might be a Yellow-Legged Gull we also wondered whether the light was playing tricks and that the Gull's back was actually much darker than it appeared, meaning that he/she was probably a Lesser Black-Backed Gull. After the Gull turned his/her back to us we plumped for Lesser Black-Backed Gull. However, thanks to expert opinion, our acquaintance has been confirmed as a Yellow-Legged Gull.

We watched a Tern fly downstream: we imagine it was probably a Common Tern but annoyingly, were unable to make a Positive Identification.

As the Year progresses further we are still hoping to add a Little Egret (a 2-Pointer), a Mediterranean Gull (a 2-Pointer) or a  Mute Swan. All of which were seen during 2016. We must be patient.

We are still spending time by the Lake beside Church Manorway which is looking rather pretty now with Water Plants appearing on the Surface viz.

And we remain hopeful of something unusual turning up on the Lake viz. a Tufted Duck perhaps?

We nominally compete in the 'Inland South' League.
