Wow: a Green Hairstreak in the Garden (at Home). Day Five

After being seemingly absent for a couple of days we were astonished to see a Green Hairstreak Butterfly in the Garden again viz.

Ladybirds in the Garden (at Home)

Four Ladybirds in a few days!

Firstly: an assumed 7-Spotter Ladybird (seen on 26 May) viz.


Secondly, two, we are told, Harlequin Ladybirds (seen yesterday) viz.



and Thirdly, a teeny-weeny. 14-Spot Ladybird seen today viz.

Wow: a Green Hairstreak in the Garden (at Home). Day Two

Much to our surprise the Green Hairstreak Butterfly was still in the Garden. And not only that, a Second one appeared briefly!

A Green Hairstreak Butterfly in the Garden (at Home)?

We certainly weren't expecting it and initially assumed it was a Holly Blue Butterfly!

A new Bee for the Garden (at Home): Andrena florea ... Updated 24 May 2019 (see Footnote)

We usually pull the White Bryony out but for some reason left it this year. We were amazed a few days ago to find it abuzz with Bees. And we now know that some of these Bees are Andrena florea.

They are Listed as 'Rare'. That being said, might 'Rare' simply mean, 'Under-Recorded?

According to the Bees, Wasps and Ants Recording Society (BWARS), 'this species [viz. Andrena florea] is one of the very few Bees that, in Britain, visits only a single flower species for Pollen [viz. White Bryony]'.






Footnote dated 24 May 2019: as we understand it, the Bees collect Pollen from White Bryony viz.

Yippee: the Butterfly Season is really getting underway now

After waiting at Home for a Package that never arrived we decided to pop out to look for Butterflies.

And Yippee: we saw our first [i] Brown Argus Butterflies for 2019 on Bostall Heath (the RB of Greenwich), the Holly Hill Open Space and beside the Upper Bedon Stream,  [ii] Common Blue Butterflies for 2019 on Bostall Heath (the RB of Greenwich), the Holly Hill Open Space and beside the Upper Bedon Stream and [iii] a Small Heath Butterfly of 2019 on the Holly Hill Open Space.

Also Holly Blue Butterflies, Small Copper Butterflies, a Small White Butterfly and a number of Unidentified White Butterflies:
